Spaghetti and Meatball Pizza

Spaghetti and Meatball PizzaI’ve been meaning to try out Palermo’s Pizzeria & Cafe for a while, so the fact they recently had a half price deal on Groupon was even better.

With thirteen different pizzas to chose from, along with calzones and sandwiches, deciding what to order was no simple feat. I was originally eyeing up the chicken caesar pizza, but as soon as I saw that they offered spaghetti and meatball pizza I knew that I had to try that instead. I clearly made a wise decision.

The pizza is made up of a hand tossed crust covered in chunky tomato sauce, mozzarella and Provolone cheeses, spaghetti noodles, meatballs and is then sprinkled with Parmesan and romano cheeses. All in all the pizza was really good. It was right up there with the lasagna pizza that I wrote about a few months ago. The only thing I didn’t like about it was that it seemed a little dry. It would have been nice if the pizza included a cup of dipping sauce.

The McDonald’s Pancake Burrito Burger

The McDonald's Pancake Burrito BurgerWhile on my lunch break recently I stopped at a McDonald’s I’d never been to before. As I walked in I noticed a sign on the door that stated how they served pancakes and breakfast burritos all day long. I could hardly believe my eyes! I had just mentioned when recreating the McDonald’s Mega Tamago Burger how I longed for an all day breakfast offering from them and now my dream was coming true! I know that it’s only two items, but that’s still a great start!

The only logical thing to do after being granted my wish of an all day McDonald’s breakfast was to create some sort of concoction that combined their regular lunch menu with these two day long breakfast choices so I ordered some pancakes, a breakfast burrito, a McDouble and grabbed a seat and got to work.

I started by removing the bun from the McDouble and topping the burger patties with the eggs, sausage, peppers and onions from my breakfast burrito. After that was done I placed the burger on a pancake, topped it with another pancake, cut the excess pancake trim from around the edges and enjoyed my McDonald’s Pancake Burrito Burger!

The B

The BIt’s no secret that the best part of a BLT is the bacon. In fact, I’d wager to say that most people couldn’t care less about the lettuce or tomato.

That’s why while making a BLT for myself one night recently I decided to skip the lettuce and tomato altogether and just stick with the bacon part of it… An entire pound of bacon that is! That coupled with some wheat toast and some deliciously fattening Hellman’s Mayonnaise and my sandwich was complete!

I know what you’re thinking, that the sandwich was probably too dry since all it consisted of was bacon right? Well, your assumptions are incorrect! I realized that if you just use a decent brand of bacon (I used Nueske’s) and slather enough mayonnaise on there your sandwich has no chance of drying out. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you The B!

The Meatball Snowman

The Meatball SnowmanWe haven’t gotten much snow in Milwaukee so far this winter, so in lieu of being able to build a snowman in my front yard I instead decided to build one in my kitchen… out of five pounds of meatballs.

The meatball snowman started with a package of ground chuck that I bought from Sam’s Club. I then added some eggs and breadcrumbs to the meat to help it stay together while it was being cooked, formed it into three giant meatballs and tossed them in the oven.

Once the meatballs were done cooking I went to work decorating the snowman. I originally planned to hold him together using toothpicks, but due to the sheer size of this thing I ended up using some kabob sticks that I had left over from grilling out in my back yard this past summer.

As soon as I had the meatballs stacked up I went to work decorating the meatball snowman with Parmesan cheese to give him a nice snow effect, a bacon scarf, hot dog arms, a top hat and a nose that I carved out of a chunk of Velveeta and tomato eyes and buttons.

After he was all decorated and I snapped some pictures (I threw the beer and Stoli bottles in so you could get an accurate idea of just how big a five pound meatball snowman really is) and then proceeded to make a sandwich out of half of his delicious meatball head, the bacon scarf and the Velveeta cheese hat and nose.

Cheese and Sausage Breakfast Pizza

Breakfast PizzaEven though I only live a couple miles from Birdie’s Cafe I’d never even heard of it until recently. After hearing about how they serve breakfast all day though I decided to stop in for a visit. Being a fan of breakfast and a fan of pizza made my decision of what to order an easy one and I decided to go with a breakfast pizza.

Birdie’s offers a few different toppings for their breakfast pizzas and I had them cover mine in cheese, spinach and sausage. In addition to those they also offer ham, bacon and other assorted vegetables as topping choices. The pizza was pretty tasty, but about a third of the crust ended up being fairly burnt.

Unfortunately even though breakfast is served all day at Birdie’s Cafe they’re only open until 5pm. There goes my plan of breakfast pizza for dinner…

With so many restaurants trying to get into the breakfast game lately it seems weird to me that pizza chains like Papa John’s or Pizza Hut haven’t tried opening a little earlier each day and offering breakfast pizza, at least on weekends. Waking up on a Saturday or Sunday morning and ordering a breakfast pizza for delivery would be amazing!
