The Charlie Sheen Sandwich

The Charlie Sheen SandwichSeeing as how Charlie Sheen has given the world so much over the past few weeks in terms of non-stop entertainment I felt like I should repay him. What can you get for the man who has millions of dollars, hangs with porn stars non-stop and actually owns Babe Ruth’s 1927 World Series ring though? Well, I decided to make him a sandwich. I knew that it couldn’t be just any ordinary sandwich though, it had to be a truly Major League caliber sandwich.

I started off by taking two boneless, skinless chicken breasts and cooking one in a mixture of vodka and spices (Vodka Chicken), and the other in tequila, lime juice and cilantro (Tequila Lime Chicken). Once the chicken breasts were done I placed them on top of some beer bread that I made using a mix I bought from Sprecher Brewery. I then topped the chicken breasts with some smoked ham and smoked turkey (have you ever seen how much Charlie Sheen smokes!?) and also added some sharp cheddar cheese because Charlie seems like such a sharp guy.

Since Charlie’s outlook on life always seems to be so bright (or sunny) I decided to top the sandwich with a couple sunny side up eggs. After that I added a couple lines of powdered sugar to the plate and ate my dinner. Aside from being absolutely delicious this sandwich also turned out to be quite large. You might even say that it’s almost big enough for the appetites of two or even Two and a Half Men! Another possible name for this sandwich? “Winner Winner Charlie’s Chicken Dinner.”

The Meat Monger Omelet

The Meat Monger OmeletYou can definitely work up quite an appetite drinking and gambling all night long in Las Vegas, and that’s how I came upon this omelet. It was around 5:15am our second night in Sin City and we were playing video poker at the MGM Grand when we all started getting a little hungry. We decided to head to Studio Cafe since last year when we were in Vegas they were open 24 hours a day, but as it turns out they’ve since changed their hours and don’t open until 6am now. Obviously our only choice was to have a couple more drinks, gamble for another 45 minutes and be first in line for breakfast.

When the clock struck six we strolled over to the cafe and took a seat. Our waitress handed us our menus and it was then that I saw it, right between the Veggie Egg White Frittata and the French Toast Short Stack — the Meat Monger Omelet — hickory bacon, corned beef, pork sausage, maple ham and cheddar cheese all packed into one delicious omelet served with hash browns and toast.

I feel like I would have enjoyed my omelet more had I not been falling asleep at the table while our food took 30 minutes to arrive, but I devoured it nonetheless. Five minutes later I was soundly asleep in my hotel room ready to get a few hours of rest before I woke up for another action packed day of drinking, gambling and eating mass amounts of food.

PBR Rock Bar & Grill

PBR Rock Bar's Dorito Crusted Mac & CheeseMy wife, a couple friends of ours and I stopped at PBR Rock Bar & Grill in Las Vegas mistakenly thinking that the “PBR” in the name stood for Pabst Blue Ribbon. We were instantly confused however when we looked through the drink menu and noticed that they didn’t sell any Pabst at all. It turns out that “PBR” is also an acronym for Professional Bull Riding. Suddenly the mechanical bull in the corner made a lot more sense. We decided to stick around anyway and I’m glad that we did because everything we tried there was delicious.

After ordering drinks we started off with an order of Dorito Crusted Mac and Cheese. A macaroni and cheese dish covered in crushed Doritos and garnished with even more Doritos for dipping. Next up was an order of their Tater Invaders, which is a pile of fries and tater tots mixed together and covered in cheese and chili.

I’m a strong proponent of all day breakfast, so for my main entree I chose a breakfast burrito stuffed with steak and eggs and covered in sour cream and guacamole. The picture doesn’t really do it justice as far as showing just how big my burrito really was, but it was huge. Although all the food was great I sort of wish I hadn’t eaten so much because if I wasn’t so full I would have hopped on the mechanical bull in a heartbeat!

The Seven Second Beer Challenge

Todd English P.U.B.Do you like free beer? I certainly do, and that’s why I made a stop at Todd English P.U.B. when I was in Las Vegas earlier this month. You see, they have a little challenge there called “Beat The Glass” where you can pick any tap beer they offer and if you can finish it in under seven seconds it’s free.

The challenge is actually a little more difficult than it sounds. The way it works is that you start with your pint glass on the bar and once the bartender says “go” and flips the hour glass (they have hour glasses that have seven seconds worth of sand in them) you have to slam your beer and have your empty glass back on the bar before all the sand reaches the bottom. What happens if you can’t do it? You pay full price for your beer, which was about $8 or $9 for most of their tap beers.

We were at the bar for about an hour and out of all the people that attempted the challenge I’d say that only about half of them finished their beers in under seven seconds. My buddy Neumann actually tried twice, once with Pabst and once with Guinness, and failed both times. When it came time for me to give it a shot I decided to go with a Guinness for my beer as well. I know that Guinness isn’t a beer that you’d normally associate with chugging, but I’ve thrown back a pretty decent amount of Irish Car Bombs in my life and those always seem to go down fairly easy so I figured it was a safe bet. Was I successful? Watch the video below to find out!

The Home Run Inn Pizza Burger

The Home Run Inn Pizza BurgerI got an email recently from the social media director for Home Run Inn Pizza. She mentioned how they recently launched their “Ultra Thin” personal frozen pizza line, which is a collection of 280 – 380 calorie personal pizzas that you can bake, grill or even cook in your microwave. She offered to send me a couple of the new pizzas to try and if there’s one thing I like more than pizza it’s FREE pizza so I happily obliged.

These personal pan pizzas measure six inches in diameter, which is probably perfect for most people looking for a quick snack. Since they’re microwavable and low in calories they’d also make a great lunch alternative for people working in offices who usually bring in Lean Cuisine type meals for lunch.

If you’ve read any of my other blog posts however you’ve probably realized by now that just throwing one of these pizzas in the microwave and tasting it isn’t going to cut it here on DudeFoods. That’s why I decided to use two of them to make a pizza burger. I’m not talking about your typical burger topped with mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce that sits between a regular hamburger bun though, I’m talking about a half pound ground beef patty that utilizes two Home Run Inn personal frozen pizzas as the bun.

I started out by taking one sausage pizza and one Margherita pizza and heating them up in my microwave. While they were cooking I flattened a half pound of ground beef into a burger patty, tossed it on the grill and topped it with some mozzarella cheese. When the burger patty was ready I placed it on top of the Margherita pizza, topped it with the sausage pizza, cut it in half and enjoyed my delicious Home Run Inn pizza burger.

Ideally I probably should have flattened the burger patty out a little more so it was the exact same size as the two pizzas, but I think it turned out pretty good anyway. The funny thing about this burger is that even with two personal pan pizzas, a half pound of ground beef and some extra cheese it was still probably more healthy than a lot of the meals I normally eat.
