The McEverything

The McEverythingWhen it comes to food $141.33 can get you a lot. In fact, it’s more than enough for a pretty decent meal for two at a really nice restaurant. Or you can do what I did recently and spend that exact same amount buying one of every single sandwich — breakfast sandwiches included — that McDonald’s offers…. Actually, I should correct myself. The price of the sandwiches was $140.33… the extra dollar was for the Diet Coke that I added to my order.

You see, I have a bucket list, but instead of things like sky diving, swimming with sharks or other death defying feats of adventure that you’d find on most typical bucket lists mine is completely food related. The number one thing on my list for two or three years now has been to make this sandwich, which I’ve dubbed the McEverything.

So why didn’t I build this monster creation earlier? Honestly, I figured that if I went into a McDonald’s location and ordered 43 different sandwiches — which is how many the fast food giant offered as of the writing of this story — that they’d either think I was totally insane or just completely hate me for having them make so many different sandwiches as part of just one order.

I finally decided to give it a shot though and I’m happy to report that the entire crew at the McDonald’s located on 66th and North Avenue in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin was more than accommodating. They even seemed a little excited to see just how tall the McEverything turned out to be.

Since I wanted to include both breakfast and lunch sandwiches as part of the McEverything I showed up about 30 minutes prior to the end of breakfast service just to give the workers enough time to assemble all the breakfast sandwiches before the menu switched over to lunch. They were also able to ring everything up all on one receipt as well, so I didn’t have to place two orders which was nice.

After all 43 sandwiches were finished and sitting at my table I got to work putting the McEverything together. I originally anticipated it only being a couple of feet high, but as you can see from the pictures it ended up MUCH taller than that. I took a few photos along the way as well just so the whole thing wouldn’t be a total waste if ended up tumbling over onto the floor before I finished stacking all the sandwiches on top of one another. Oh, and if you’re wondering how I held the entire thing together the answer is bamboo skewers… lots and lots of bamboo skewers….

Aside from keeping the McEverything from toppling over as I was assembling it I’d say that the hardest part of building it was not eating any of the sandwiches until it was complete. I’m a total sucker for McDonald’s sandwiches, especially their McGriddles.

Now, I know that some of you are probably reading this right now and thinking to yourself “Man, what kind of idiot spends $142 on 43 McDonald’s sandwiches?” The way I see it though is that with all the leftovers I have I’ve got all my breakfasts, lunches and dinners covered for the next week or so!

Awesome. Was everyone just staring at you while you made this creation? Were they wondering WTF you were doing?

Yeah pretty much, ha ha. I think the most common question from the workers as well as the other customers was “Wait, so WHY are you doing this?”

when can we see the same for Wendy’s, Burger King and GOD FORBID Taco Bell. I would love to see you eat a 6 foot high Taco/Burrito/Fajita tower, lol

Someone on Facebook actually mentioned Taco Bell as well. I think it would be hilarious to order one of everything they sell and then have some giant custom tortilla made and wrap it all up inside of that.

Well Beth, technically it was only $142, but the large Diet Coke cost the extra dollar…. Also, I’ve wasted $143 on WAY worse stuff than this.

I just want to congratulate you on being the dumbest motherfucker I have ever read about in any story in all of my 54 years on this earth. As I look at your picture and put 2 and 2 together, It’s an obvious depiction of everything a moron is and does with the waste of breath they are given during a lifetime. If I was a teacher or health professional, you would be the poster turd for what not to be.

My biggest question is how did you get them to serve breakfast and lunch at the same time? Better not let the crazy chicken nuggets lady see this.

    • Nick
      September 18, 2013 at 7:21 pm (2 years ago)

I ordered shortly before they were done serving breakfast and they rang everything up at once and then made all the breakfast sandwiches, switched to lunch and then made all the other sandwiches.

Okay… I know I saw it took you a while to actually get up the nerve to do this…. Buy I have to ask what gave you the idea? Also I’m all for a “comparison” against Wendy’s or BK. That would be AWESOME!!!
Having worked fast food before (Culver’s) I’m thankful that you took into consideration what the employees were going to have to go through to do this and that you came in during a normally slow period. <3's

    September 19, 2013 at 12:57 am (2 years ago)

Impressive! I count 42 sandwiches on the trays and 42 on the receipt you have in the photo. With McDonald’s sandwiches (based on 18 from their lunch menu) averaging about 480 calories, you could eat 3 per day for 14 days, consuming about 1440 calories per day, for a total of 20,160 calories by the end of two weeks. While it might not be a diet for a body champion, you are definitely a champion burger kabob maker! Congrats!

So the average price of a McDonald’s hamburger in the US is around 3.25 USD. Given that the average cost of a burger in Switzerland is 5.65 USD, you’d have paid a lot more than 143 bucks for that meat-bun stack. But since McDonald’s Switzerland only sells 9 different burgers instead of the whopping 43 varieties of its US counterpart, you’d still have saved 92 bucks :)

You know you can cook way better food for way less. Sorry but “really fast metabolism” does do anything about health effects from eating this junk. You also don’t look that healthy to me. I think the over all message of what you did isn’t good one but hope you gain whatever you seek out of it. Best wishes to your short life if you conitue on this path.

    • Nick
      September 19, 2013 at 9:46 am (2 years ago)

I don’t look healthy based on a couple pictures you’ve seen of me? I hate to break it to you, but at my last doctor checkup everything was completely normal. It’s not like I eat this every day and honestly, believe it or not, it IS possible to eat fast food and still live a healthy lifestyle…. Thanks for being so concerned about me though!

Nope, unfortunately McDonald’s isn’t currently selling the McRib, but I figured that by the time they are selling it again they’d probably stop selling at least one of the sandwiches that I did buy so it would probably just even out.

This is great. This is big time inspiration for me to make my blended double whopper (with a strawberry shake). I’ve been dreaming of making that since 1999, I don’t know why I haven’t tried it. Thanks for the motivation.

Reminds me of my sons McSlam they order off the $ menu.. 2 McChickens and a McDouble that they reassemble and eat as one sandwich. But seriously I almost spit my coffee out all over my laptop when I notice the Diet coke on the receipt….that’s f’n hysterical!!! It has always cracked me up when heavyset people order a double quarter and an extra large diet coke. Glad you got another one scratched off on your bucket list! Most people don’t usually.

You looked like you had fun. Those with the sarcastic comments really don’t like anything or themselves! As for the “doctors” maybe they shouldn’t visit a food site and tell YOU how to eat or live!

When younger, I thought nothing of having 10 burgers at a time. Still living and still at 60, in good shape.

You are doing what you like/love. You’re only young once. You only live one time. Detractors are jealous!

    Stay young. Loved the site!!!!!!!

I DON’T EAT FAST FOOD. I HAVEN’T FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW. While i still would not indulge in it. I think it is phenomenal that you did this challenge. I don’t care what person it is, but at some point in everyone’s youth, they imagined, or thought to themselves “I am so hungry, I would order everything on the menu if I could.” I know I have. You have made a childhood fantasy come alive. Thank you.

I have spent the last three days going over everything on your site. Love that you keep it clean, I can share this with my 13 year old eater son. I like how you have evolved since the beginning. You explain the taste of things more, than when you began. Show us a pic of your wife and aunt. How does your wife deal with all of this? I would personally be thrilled with it. As far as bloggers go, you are the next Pioneer Woman. Hope to see ya on the food network soon.

Thanks Amy! Yeah, it’s crazy how far the site has come since I started it. I hate looking back at my old photos and just seeing how terrible some of them look, ha ha. Yeah, my wife enjoys it. She’s a pretty picky eater so I cant get her to try a lot of the stuff I make, but she definitely gets a kick out of it.

      October 28, 2013 at 4:37 pm (2 years ago)

Yeah, I just saw it. The people over at FoodBeast are awesome folks. It was actually the people over at Thrillist that made it and Foodbeast just wrote about it, but I agree about the sandwich, it’s pretty lame.

Also, as someone who eats at McDonald’s fairly often I can tell you that there are more items on the Dollar Menu than the six things that were on that sandwich, so they didn’t even use every single Dollar Menu item.

LOL! That is soooo gross. I love mcd’s breakfasts and McGriddles are my fave but we dont have them here in the UK. Which is wack!
Did you actually eat that though? And how safe would it be to eat a several day old big mac kept in the fridge? I would be interested to know what randon combos of different burgers actually taste good.
An ex of mine worked at mcd’s and used to do a double quarter pounder cheese with big mac sauce and barbecue sauce…can’t say I was brave enough to try it!

And if any of you tools had bothered reading the article, he said he was going to be eating it over the next couple weeks.

      He didn’t waste it.

Seriously don’t get the negative nellies. Their main 2 arguments make 0 sense. Money? People will spend 800.00 on a pair of shoes or thousands on a handbag, it’s nobody’s business what someone else spends their money on, who cares? He’s not hurting anyone. And the health “advocates” don’t seem to understand that this is a bucket list item, almost by definition something you’ve never done before and will likely not do again. One totally unhealthy, perhaps disgusting, meal is not going to send him to an early grave! Lol relax peeps it’s all in good fun. I think it’s pretty cool. My hubby did an octostacker challenge at Wendy’s (8 patties with cheese) and is generally one of the healthiest people I know. Kudos for checking off a bucket list item :)

Ps the fact the your bucket list is all foods reminds me of the episode of the Simpsons where homer’s bucket list is all buckets of (mostly food) things (like shrimp and tartar sauce)
