The SpaghettiOs Burger Bun

The SpaghettiOs Burger BunLast month I made some Deep Fried SpaghettiOs that were breaded in Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and you guys loved it so much that I knew I had to follow it up with something even more ridiculous.

Actually, “loved” isn’t quite the right word…. I think the word I was looking for was “hated.” Yeah, you guys hated it!

The comments on Twitter were probably the most ruthless with people saying things like “I hope all the bad things in life happen to you and nobody else but you,” “It’s pretty impressive to take a bunch of foods I like and combine them to make them completely unappetizing,” “Y’all shouldn’t be allowed to do anything food related” and “I think I got diarrhea just looking at it.”  On the plus side, at least people were talking about my recipe right?!

Now, whereas the Deep Fried SpaghettiOs were actually easy to eat since you could just pop them In your mouth this burger was the complete opposite. It definitely looked cool, but the bun completely fell apart the second I started eating it.

Mixing some cheese in with the SpaghettiOs to give the bun a little more stability might have helped a little bit, but it probably still would have been too messy to work as a functional burger bun.

So, if you want a burger that looks really cool but is super messy and totally impractical to actually eat this burger is perfect for you! If you’re into Flamin’ Hot Cheetos and SpaghettiOs though and want to combine the two you should probably just stick with my original Deep Fried SaghettiOs recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (22.4 ounces) SpaghettiOs
  • 2 quarts oil for frying
  • 1 bag (8 1/2 ounces) Flamin' Hot Cheetos crushed
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1 slice Cheddar cheese
  • your choice of burger toppings I went with lettuce and tomato

Instructions

  • Pour SpaghettiOs equally into two separate springform pans and freeze for 2 hours or until frozen through.
  • Remove the springform pans from your freezer and pop out the frozen SpaghettiOs discs.
  • Set up a dredging station with three bowls — flour in the first one, eggs and milk in the second one and crushed Flamin’ Hot Cheetos in the third one.
  • Coat each SpaghettiOs disc in flour, submerge in egg wash and cover in crushed Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. Repeat this step a second time if necessary and freeze for at least another 30 minutes.
  • Form ground beef into a burger patty and grill for 5 minutes per side over medium heat or until they reach your desired level of doneness. Top your burger with a slice of Cheddar cheese during the last minute on the grill.
  • Heat oil in deep fryer or heavy skillet to 375°F and fry Flamin’ Hot Cheetos breaded SpaghettiOs buns for 5 minutes or until no longer frozen.
  • Assemble your burger by taking one SpaghettiOs bun and topping it with a burger patty and your choice of toppings — I went with lettuce and tomato — and finally a second SpaghettiOs bun.
