The Cheeseburger With a Doughnut Bun

The doughnut burgerOne of the big hits as far as food goes at the Wisconsin State Fair this year was a cheeseburger with a Krispy Kreme doughnut for a bun. As soon as I heard about this I knew that I couldn’t wait for the fair to try one, I had to make my own.

I decided to try it one day on my lunch break, and since there aren’t any Krispy Kreme locations near my work I instead headed to the grocery store where for 50 cents I found the perfect doughnut. After checking out I headed straight to McDonald’s (doughnut in hand) where for $1 I bought a McDouble. I sat down at a table, sliced the doughnut in half, removed the bun from my McDouble and replaced it with the two doughnut halves.

As I bit into my doughnut burger I noticed a couple people staring up at me from their Extra Value Meals, but I didn’t care because this thing was delicious. The only real downfall was how sticky the doughnut made my hands. If your local county or state fair sells these (or if you just feel like bringing a doughnut into a McDonald’s and making your own) I’d highly recommend you try one. Then again I also like to dip french fries into my ice cream so feel free to take my recommendation with a grain of salt…

Ya know, I was sad I didn’t get to try the Krispy Kreme Cheeseburger. I didn’t even think to just make it myself! Good call and I think I might have to give it a try!

I tried the burger at the fair and it was good. However, the meat tasted more like a breakfast sausage (it was a bit sweeter than a cheeseburger patty). So I think the name was a bit misleading, but the product was still delicious.

Oh yeah, that makes sense. If I ever make another one I’ll flip it the other way around.

You should also toast the doughnut, I just put it in a hot pan with the inside down until it’s golden brown, and I only use Krispy Kreme doughnuts, they seem to come out better.

I notice that your final photo – the one taken after you’d already eaten half the burger – is shaky. Is this because you were on the brink of a diabetic coma?

Possibly. Either that or I was just so excited to finish eating my delicious burger that I just snapped the photo too quickly.
