I never realized how well Oreo cookie filling melted until I tried deep frying it back in November. Since then I’ve been trying to come up with another use for it and while staring at a package of bacon that I got in the mail from Hormel it finally came to me. Oreo Cookie Glazed Bacon! If you even remotely like candied bacon you’ll absolutely LOVE this!
Just like I did when I made my Deep Fried Oreo Cookie Filling I started off by removing the filling from an entire package of Oreo cookies. I then put all the filling in a bowl and microwaved it for 60 seconds to melt it. At that point it wasn’t completely melted on its own, but after stirring it with a spoon for about a minute it was.
The next step is to take a pastry brush and brush the melted Oreo filling onto one side of your bacon. I draped my bacon strips across a metal baking rack, which is turn was placed on top of a baking sheet. When cooking bacon in the oven I definitely prefer this method to just throwing the bacon directly onto a baking sheet, because this allows the grease to drip off the bacon vs. just pooling up around it, which always ends up burning the edges.
I then placed the bacon in my 400° oven for ten minutes before taking it out, flipping it, brushing the other side of each slice with melted Oreo filling and then baking it for another ten minutes. You’ll also probably need to microwave the bowl of Oreo filling again prior to this step because at this point it will most likely be hardening up.
I used a pretty thick cut of bacon, so if you’re using a regular cut you might want to try baking it for only seven minutes on each side. Either way, just make sure you keep an eye on it. You can always throw it back in the oven for longer if it’s undercooked, but there isn’t much you can do for it once it’s burnt.
When your bacon is done it will initially look super greasy, but if you just let it cool for a few minutes you’ll start to notice that the glistening is mostly due to the deliciously sweet Oreo cookie filling that now coats your bacon. It’s also at this point that you can crush up some of the chocolate Oreo cookie discs and sprinkle them onto your bacon, after which you’ll be left with strips upon strips of amazing Oreo Cookie Glazed Bacon!

February 4, 2014 at 9:52 pm (11 years ago)I am a vegan – don’t worry, I leave the preaching to others – so I can’t try this. However, I did share this with a FB friend who lives and breathes bacon. 🙂
You did a great job with the article and pics!

June 25, 2014 at 8:08 am (10 years ago)You know why Oreo filling melts so well and works so well for frying things in? It’s Crisco and sugar. In other words, when you tried to deep-fry it and it didn’t work, it’s because you can’t fry oil in more oil :>
