Brick 3 Pizza

Brick 3 PizzaLocated in downtown Milwaukee, Brick 3 Pizza has been open for two and a half years now. I’ve eaten there about eight or nine times in that span, but due to their late night hours and close proximity to numerous bars none of those visits have been before 2am, or, for that matter, when I’ve been sober. Since pretty much everything tastes good when you’re drunk however I was a little nervous that Brick 3 wouldn’t be quite as good as I remembered when I stopped in for lunch recently. That wasn’t the case at all though and every bite of pizza was just as delicious as each my previous late-night visits.

One slice of pizza from Brick 3 is easily enough to fill you up, but since I couldn’t decide what I wanted to eat during my most recent trip there I went a little overboard and ordered four different slices. First up was a slice of macaroni and cheese pizza, which is easily my favorite pizza that Brick 3 serves. I also decided to try a slice of the BBQ chicken and bacon pizza and a slice of their caprese pizza, both of which I’d also had before. I couldn’t quite decide what to order for my fourth and final slice and wanted to try something new, so the guy working behind the counter suggested that I try their baked potato pizza, which is topped with potatoes, bacon, scallions, Cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese and sour cream.

Although the mac & cheese pizza will probably always be my favorite thing to order at Brick 3, the baked potato pizza was alarmingly good. I’m not usually a huge fan of baked potatoes, but chopping a few of them up and covering a crust with them and some traditional baked potato toppings makes for a really great tasting pizza. So there you have it folks, Brick 3 Pizza, great for when you’re drunk and just as good when you’re sober!

Oh my GOD. One of the reasons I love your blog is that I always discover some dish I’ve never heard of. Wisconsin might as well be a different planet to me. That being said, the idea of a mac and cheese pizza is brilliant! I love mac and cheese! I love pizza! Is there tomato sauce underneath? A creamy garlic sauce? No sauce? What kind of cheese(s)?

I would really appreciate it if you could break down the construction of the mac and cheese pizza for me. It doesn’t have to be in measurements, just the basic idea would be great, enough so that I can try making this at home! Thanks!

It’s basically just macaroni noodles and Cheddar cheese and then what seemed like sort of a white sauce, but no tomato sauce.

There wasn’t a ton of sauce though, so if you just used a really creamy cheese sauce on your macaroni noodles that would probably work as well, but if you just search Google for “white pizza sauce recipe” you should be able to find a bunch of different white sauces that you can make that would probably work with it.

Thanks! I did a google search and there are a couple variations on mac and cheese pizza but most of them have some kind of tomato sauce mixed in. I did, however, find one blog where they used a thin layer of creme fraiche as the “sauce” before laying down the macaroni and then the cheese. I think that is actually brilliant since it would add some tang to it. I look forward to giving it a try using fresh pizza dough from TJ or WF.

Nick, love the website. Any other pizza places you recommend in MKE? I know I’m going a little off topic, but thought you might be a good guy to ask. I’ve been mourning the loss of first Pizza Man and then Olive Pit. Your Aunt Maria said you might be a resource.

I actually LOVE Classic Slice (there’s one in Bay View and one on the East Side).

If you’re looking for more of a classic thin crust type pizza Zaffiro’s (near Brady and Farwell) is one of the best in my opinion.
