Bratwurst Style Pulled Pork Sliders

Bratwurst Style Pulled Pork SlidersIf you've been reading DudeFoods for a while then you'll probably know that all last year I was working with Smithfield to come up with various recipes using their Marinated Fresh Pork products. In case you missed them though, you can click here to check out all the different dishes I came up with.

This year they've once again asked me to create some recipes using their amazing Fresh Pork products, and for my first Smithfield post of 2016 they shipped me one of their Boneless Netted Fresh Pork Shoulder Roasts.

The pork shoulder is perfect in your oven, slow cooker or even smoker if you've got one, but since Smithfield specifically asked me for an easy recipe that has less than 30 minutes of prep time I opted to use my slow cooker.

Right now I know you're probably thinking, "But Nick, what could you possibly do with pork and a slow cooker that hasn't been done already?" Well, I'll tell you what I can do - Bratwurst Style Pulled Pork Sliders!

After all, brats are just ground up pork shoulder plus seasoning stuffed into casings, so I decided to take those same spices, cover the pork shoulder with them and throw it into my slow cooker, thus creating pulled pork that tastes exactly like bratwurst!

I also  added sauerkraut directly to the slow cooker right along with the pork. It gives the pork a great taste and cuts through the rich, fatty shoulder, but If you're not a huge sauerkraut fan you can also just add it to the sliders when the pulled pork is done instead - or not at all if you really don't like sauerkraut.

Most pulled pork recipes call for you to fill the bottom of your slow cooker with chicken broth or water or tomato paste, but seeing as how brats and beer go together like peanut butter and jelly I opted to use a cup of beer instead.

Once my pulled pork was done I served it on soft pretzel slider buns - topped with sauerkraut of course! Want to make these Bratwurst Style Pulled Pork Sliders yourself? Check out the recipe below!
