The Dogg Haus

The Dog HausThe Dogg Haus is another one of those places that I’ve always wanted to stop and eat at, but for one reason or another never got the chance. When my buddy Kyle and I went to go see Maritime play a free show during Record Store Day recently though we had some time to kill, we were both hungry, and The Dogg Haus was right around the corner so I suggested that we stop in for some food.

The great thing about The Dogg Haus is that they have a ton of menu options. If you’re in a hurry they have 14 different specialty dogs to choose from that consist of a Vienna Beef hot dog in a bun with various toppings. If you feel like getting creative however you can also build your own dog and choose between nine different hot dog options and then top them with your choice of almost 30 different toppings. Not a meat eater? No problem, they also offer a Boca (veggie) hot dog.

We didn’t have much time to eat, so I decided to go with the Tex-Mex, which is one of their specialty dogs and comes covered in salsa, shredded cheese, sour cream and onions. The menu prices at The Dogg Haus are also extremely reasonable, with a majority of the specialty dogs only costing $2.49 and the rest of them coming in closer to the $3 mark. Granted, the regular Vienna Beef hot dogs used in the specialty dogs aren’t the biggest hot dogs in the world, but for $2.49 there’s no reason not to just buy a couple of them anyway. I definitely would have tried another one if we didn’t have to get to the Maritime show.

I have wondered about this place too when I see the sign on the interstate between Madison and Chicago. Sounds like I will need to make a pit stop next time.

They make a tasty Italian beef too. Big fan of the Haus.

If you find yourself further north, try Dr. Dawg in Glendale. Awesome chow. They have Scala Italian beef, Vienna dogs, excellent fries, great sausage options, including duck and vegetarian. (I personally find veggie sausage an abomination, but point it out for any herbivores out there.)

It looks like Dr. Dawg is only about a 15 minute drive from where I work, so I’ll have to check it out some day on my lunch break. Thanks for the tip!

I can tolerate Boca burgers, but Boca hot dogs? ICK.

Oh yeah, I’m pretty much the same way, but I just figured that I should point it out to any non-meat eaters out there. Then again I’m not sure how many non-meat eaters I have reading my blog…
