Denny’s New Fried Cheese Melt

Denny's Fried Cheese MeltDenny’s recently added some new choices to their value menu and one of these items is the Fried Cheese Melt. The “grilled cheese with a twist” as they refer to it is two pieces of sourdough bread with American cheese in between them. The “twist” is that unlike a regular grilled cheese sandwich, this one includes four fried mozzarella sticks as well.

The sandwich is only $4 and includes fries and a side of marinara sauce, which is a great deal. At 1,260 calories and 63 grams of fat though (including the fries and sauce) it definitely isn’t the healthiest thing in the world.

As far as taste goes the Fried Cheese Melt tastes pretty much exactly the way you’d expect it to, like a grilled cheese with mozzarella sticks in the middle… The marinara sauce wasn’t the greatest and pretty much resembled those packets of frozen marinara that you get with food from the freezer section of the grocery store. After a couple bites dipped in marinara I asked for a side of ranch dressing and dipped the sandwich in that instead, which made it a lot better. I’m a sucker when it comes to ranch though and love it on pretty much everything. Was the sandwich worth $4? Absolutely, when you consider that a sandwich and fries from most fast food places would cost just as much, if not more.

So I came across your site via Nerdalicious and have been pursuing it for the past several hours. Yes, really.

I just felt the need to comment on this entry, though, because my friends are always telling me that I am the only person in the world who dips my grilled cheese in ranch dressing! But I’m not! :fist bump: or whatever it is the cool kids are doing these days. 🙂

Thanks for reading! Yeah, I pretty much dip everything in ranch. I even put ranch dressing on my pizza sometimes, which all my friends though was crazy when I started doing it ten years ago, but now I know tons of people that put ranch dressing on pizza.
