Selling Out: Part One

I don’t make much money from the ads on this blog, which is totally fine with me — I write it because I have fun doing so. I like coming up with ridiculous food creations and I absolutely love hearing people’s reactions to them.

Where exactly am I going with this? I was recently approached by Verizon Wireless who offered me some money, a free Motorola Droid Xyboard (don’t worry if you’ve never heard of it, because I hadn’t either until they handed it to me. As it turns out though it’s a pretty sweet Android tablet) and free, unlimited data service on their 4G LTE network until the end of the year in exchange for me talking about them on my blog. I accepted.

Does that make me a sellout? I’m not sure. What I do know though is that I’m now contractually obligated to mention Verizon twice a month here on DudeFoods for the next six months. Mention them how you ask? They weren’t very specific about it, which is sort of cool. Basically I’m just supposed to write about anything that I think might be “interesting” to you guys when it comes to how I’ve been using my tablet.

The only real steadfast rules about the program (which they call their Savvy Gourmets Program) are that I need to include that image that you see in the upper left-hand corner of this post and the disclosure language that you see in red down below every time I mention the program.

So far I’ve pretty much only used it to stream music off the internet while I’ve been in my back yard grilling, which isn’t exactly front page news, so I’ll probably have to get back to you with some stories that are a little more engaging than that. All I know right now is that I’ve got one blog post down and only eleven more to go!

Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Wireless Midwest Savvy Gourmets program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.

As long as your writing remains honest (and I have no doubt that it will as you seem like a decent guy), I see no problem with it. You deserve a little kickback for entertaining/enlightening us. Enjoy your tablet!

Maybe you could use your tablet to photograph and publish a post, and talk about how you did it?

I don’t think you’re a sellout 🙂 I totally want to make your taco cones but don’t have a waffle cone maker

Awwww thanks! Yeah, the $20 or $25 that I spent on that waffle cone maker has been a great investment so far!

I would only be upset if you wrote a post saying you didn’t accept the offer.

I do think you should have to talk about how it tastes though…

Meh. I don’t see why anyone would be upset. You deserve to make a bit of money for the effort you put into this project.

1 – use it to photograph.
2 – use it to post.
3 – try out a couple of recipe organizing apps (i’ll happily recommend some of my favorites for the Android platform).
4 – decide that you hate it and send it my way 😉

Use it as a cutting board or serving platter to round off the experience! 🙂
