I feel like gas station food is often overlooked as sub-par fare that just sits out all day under heat lamps waiting for some poor sucker to come buy it. While that may be the case, you certainly can’t pass up Speedway’s two for $2 deal that includes sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, taquitos and more.
When stopping at Speedway for lunch I normally get two of the same thing, but on this occasion I decided to mix it up and get chicken taquitos, put them inside hot dog buns and then take advantage of the hot dog and nacho toppings they offer to make my lunch even more delicious.
When all was said and done my deep fried chicken taquitos were covered in nacho cheese, chili, ketchup and onions. Picking these up to eat them clearly wasn’t an option at this point so I grabbed a knife and fork as well.
The best part of the taquito in a hot dog bun lunch was that when I went up to the register to pay it took the cashier a good three or four minutes to decide if she should ring my two creations up as taquitos or as hot dogs since the taquitos normally come in plain paper bags and the hot dogs are the ones that are usually put in buns. I finally suggested ringing it up as one taquito and one hot dog and she seemed happy enough with that solution.
