Antigua Latin Restaurant

Antigua's Tequila Cream ChickenThere’s more to me than just bacon weave grilled cheese sandwiches and deep fried White Castle sliders. Occasionally I like to class it up a little bit and head out to dinner at places that serve food that’s a little fancier than when I’m used to. Places like Antigua Latin Restaurant for example.

I’ve been to Antigua three or four times now and I’ve never had a bad meal or even a single bad bite of food for that matter. I don’t know if I’d necessarily call it a “hidden gem,” but whenever I hear people talking about great restaurants around the Milwaukee area I rarely, if ever, hear Antigua mentioned when it certainly should be.

On my most recent visit I tried a couple different dishes. First up was the Tequila Cream Chicken, which is chicken covered in a tequila cream sauce, over a bed of avocado and served with cilantro rice. Everything about this plate was perfect. My mouth is actually watering right now as I think back on how delicious the tequila cream sauce tasted over the tender cuts of chicken.

The second dish I tried was the Camarones Antigua, which consists of shrimp stuffed with melted cheese and wrapped in bacon. Leave it to me to find the one bacon wrapped item on the menu…. Much like the chicken, the shrimp was also amazing. I’ve had bacon wrapped shrimp before, but the addition of stuffed cheese really took is to the next level.

Bottom line, if you live in Milwaukee and you haven’t been to Antigua yet you owe it to yourself to give it a try. If you aren’t in the area however you can live vicariously through me by checking out the drool-worthy photos below.

They used Oaxaca, which is a Mexican cheese.
